Pleinweg,Rotterdam Zuid.

Fam. J.Westerweel"

Wil Westerweel from the book "The Pioneering Underground in the Occupied Netherlands" page 117

In the summer of 1942, Joop, I, and the children spent a summer camp in Gelderland County. We were with a group of students from the Montessori school in Rotterdam, whose principal had been Joop since 1941. When we returned to Rotterdam, we found a foreign family in our apartment. It was the Cohen family from Amsterdam. For over a week, the people sat in our house waiting for our return, worried and tense. It turns out that our friend, Tine Segboer, in whose hands we deposited the key to the apartment, housed the family for one night in our house. The intention was to move them across the border, to Belgium. Unfortunately, Tine was stopped and she could not inform the Cohen family. We decided to leave the family in our apartment, because the neighbors already felt them anyway, and the place was relatively safe. We moved into furnished rooms, and stayed there until it was necessary to vacate them as well for five guys from Loosdrecht. It was the first time we could actively express the feelings of anger that filled our hearts in the face of acts of terrorism and human rights violations.

The story that Wil described above as described by Jane Fresco-Cohen, in the Holocaust diary written by her father, Yitzhak Cohen

When I, the "child" of my father (Yitzhak Cohen), I received the reserve order to face in Germany, and when I informed my parents that I would not go no matter what, my mother wrote a letter to her sister who lived in Scheveningen. Her sister told the whole case to her neighbor named Tine Segboer to ask her if she might know a solution to our problem. Tine went to us immediately by train and told that she had friends who would no doubt be willing to help. She asked us to stand ready in a few days, without a suitcase and with only the clothes on us. She's coming to pick us up from the house.

The very next day she came again and brought us to an address in the city of Rotterdam, where lived a family who, as she told us, went on vacation and would not at all object to our presence there. But the next day our good 'fairy' was arrested and only after a considerable time she was released. In the meantime we stayed in an apartment in the southern district of Rotterdam, Pleinweg, Rotterdam Zuid.On the door was a sign that read: "Fam. J. Westerweel" At the end of six weeks we heard the front door open and the tenants themselves showed up, very surprised by our presence and when they heard our story and that we were brought here by their friend Tine, they calmed us down and said we would stay in their apartment and they would find another place temporarily. We lived there for a year and a half and from time to time we were joined by other hideouts who found temporary shelter with us.
